Andersen Genève timepieces are famed for their “Unique Piece”, complications and exclusiveness and the reputation was founded when Svend Andersen, founder of Andersen Genève and co-founder of AHCI, received an order from a prominent Swiss collector to make a gold case for a highly complicated pocket watch movement. Svend Andersen just left his role at Patek Philippe and with a newly founded atelier in Geneva, he created the case with a Geneva case maker and there goes the beginning of a distinguished journey till date as venerable independent watchmaker.
Other than the highly exquisite Montre à Tact, the Jour Et Nuit and a unique collaboration piece with Konstantin Chaykin, World Time watches have come to best defined the name Andersen Genève. The first World Time watch introduced by Andersen Genève was the “Communication” in 1990, commemorating the 1st World Time wristwatch made by Mr. Louis Cottier in 1930. Since then, a chain of World Time Edition wristwatches have been introduced with the latest being the Tempus Terrae World Time with in-house World Time module and bezels decorated with baguette gemstones.
The Word Time watches by Andersen Genève pays homage to the standards of haute horlogerie found in established maisons and present complication watches with elegant aesthetics manifested by perfect ratio for all elements – “Not too big, not too small”. Andersen Genève calls out to watch collectors from all around the world to create the “pièce unique” they have been dreaming of.
While working at Patek Philippe in the early 70’s, Svend Andersen had the chance to work on the World Time complication first developed by Louis Cottier in 1930. World Time complications have since been an integral part of the brand’s DNA.
Born in Denmark in 1942, Svend Andersen went to Switzerland in 1963 to see how the world’s best watches are made. He made a mark for himself in the watch world when he presented the Bottle Clock, which caught the attention of Patek Philippe. Svend Andersen went on to join Patek Philippe’s Atelier des grandes complications where he spent 9 years before launching his own workshop in the late 70’s. Since then, Andersen Geneve has been developing complicated watches like annual calendar, perpetual calendar, jumping hour calendar and World Time watches.
The man is more than a Master Watchmaker as he is known to welcome and train young watchmakers in the likes of Frank Müller and Felix Baumgartner. Svend Andersen unites people and is an advocate in the transmitting of knowledge. The philosophy remains and today two master watchmakers collaborate with Svend ANDERSEN at the atelier while one administrator manages the non-watchmaking sides.
